Panic attacks, anxiety linked to low vitamin B and iron levels: Study

A human scientific study from Japan has found out that panic attacks, anxiety linked to low vitamin B and iron levels.  According to this study, if you suffer from anxiety or develop occasional panic attacks (PA) or a hyperventilation attack (HVA), you are very likely to encounter the symptoms of both vitamin B and iron deficiency.

According to the results of the conducted study in Japan, which included 21 participants, researchers concluded that subjects who suffer from anxiety and hyperventilation issues were lacking  both vitamin B6 and iron compared to the subjects in the healthy group, who had adequate levels of these essential nutrients.

Namely, B vitamins and iron are of a vital importance as cofactors in the synthesis of tryptophan into serotonin, a neurotransmitter, responsible for regulation of mood and mental stability, as well as sleep and cardiovascular function.

“These results suggest that low serum concentrations of vitamin B6 and iron are involved in PA (panic attacks) and HVA (hyperventilation),” wrote the authors in their study’s conclusion. “Further studies are needed to clarify the mechanisms involved in such differences.”

Including B vitamins and iron-foods regularly in the diet can prevent B vitamin and iron deficiency, and improve the mental health.
